Apply by 5 October: bring your biodiversity action to CBD COP17

pta is looking for real biodiversity actions by young people in China: from cities, villages and campuses to forests, wetlands and coasts. Some efforts have continued for years; others have just begun. Their stories can be brought to this year’s biodiversity conference.

01 / Launch at CBD COP17

pta plans to publish the Collection of Chinese Youth Biodiversity Action Cases during CBD COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia. A Green Zone session, “From Stories to Action: Youth, Science and Biodiversity Education in China,” is planned for 25 October 2026, 10:00–10:45.

02 / Why share these stories?

Biodiversity action also begins in ordinary places: a school species survey, years of protecting migratory birds, insect-friendly planting in a neighborhood, a child’s first close observation of nature, or a founder examining a product’s impact on ecosystems. Such work deserves to be recorded and discussed internationally.

03 / Deadline: 5 October 2026

If you are working on biodiversity, large or small, pta welcomes your case before the deadline.

04 / What kinds of work qualify?

Other work improving the relationship between people and nature is welcome too.

• Species surveys and protection, including birds, insects, plants, wildlife and native species
• Forests, wetlands, rivers, oceans, grasslands, farmland, urban green spaces and habitat restoration
• Nature education, school programs, public activities, observation and citizen science
• Youth volunteering, community conservation and rural initiatives
• AI, digital tools, research, design, products and other innovations
• Sustainable food, consumption, circularity, greener products and business practices
• Photography, film, illustration, music, design, traditional knowledge and cultural expression

05 / Small projects are welcome

You do not need a large budget, established institution, polished metrics, awards or a formal project report. Ongoing nature observation, a small group project or a youth volunteer effort can all make valuable cases.

06 / What happens if selected?

• Your story will be edited for the case collection
• The collection is planned for launch at the 25 October session
• Some cases may feature in conference showcases and exchanges
• Outstanding cases may receive continued coverage through pta channels
• Participants can meet peers across cities and sectors

07 / Application takes around 10–15 minutes

Describe why you started, the problem you saw, what you did, what changed, a memorable moment, and what you might do differently. Honest stories matter more than perfect submissions.
